4168944 J/T Jenner JC ASF2 RAF Nicosia BFPO 53 September 26 Dear daddy Received your startling letter today with news in it. Glad to hear all is going well but I'm sorry for the fact that everyone is leaving Maidstone. We have not heard anything from M and G. Shall write again soon. Regarding my short story: since my last letter I have been nominated onto the editorial committee of the magazine. So shall soon make sure that I get something in print, even if it’s only the kiddies page. There are three of us on it, under the CO’s wife’s jurisdiction. Our first meeting will be held at her house this week. I feel a bit apprehensive but shall do my best; apparently no one on camp seems keen to take on the job. Teahouse is on fifth and sixth of October. We rehearsed on Sunday from 10.30 until 2.30, so I was deadbeat after rushing from Sunday school, where I had 24 girls! We are to do it again on the second at 10.30 but I’m in two minds about it, as its Holy Communion at church and Ian and I usually go together so shall be too late for their play. I have to wear a kimono in it. I feel quite proud of myself too - for the producer (a tight cynic) always pulls everyone to pieces, including those with professional experience but I always get “excellent performance Flora”! This makes me unpopular with some of the girls but still I don’t care. I shan’t attempt another part because it’s too much time away from home. David tries to walk now. He took some steps recently and is cutting a high tooth. He is good on the whole, but has its little tantrums when frustrated. He likes to eat snails and dirt and when stopped screws up his face, shuts his eyes tight and gives a long scream! He also delights in taking out the rubbish from the wastepaper basket! He has taken to books, and goes directly to the bookcase on his own shelf, and gets his books, which he scrutinises page by page and says “Wee – Yum – Goo” etcetera as he goes! There is a dog in one book reproduced several times and when we say “woof woof” he points with his thumb to this dog. He seems to be taking everything in now and not doing much outwardly. His brain seems to be developing and he remembers things more. We received a Kent messenger today. In it we saw the weddings of Miss Mills’ and Johnny Pages. Also in the obituaries that of Mr Cosmore-Mills. Couldn’t see GCE results though. Poor Mrs CM I feel sorry for her. Ian heard today that he has passed his part one of his exam for Cpl technician. Next step is verbal at the beginning of November. He is a bit worried about this one. Our friend who babysits passed with 93% – a record! If Ian gets his next 2 parts he will go up to Cpl technician. He has to know all about metals and hydraulics et cetera, all formulas chapter and verse. Yes, we heard on the home news that the 9 PM news was done away with. Such a pity. There should be an outcry throughout the United Kingdom. We have seen quite a bit of Cyprus but I didn’t say it was a nice place. Some of it isn’t too bad here and there – but the people are nearly all dirty and everything is brown. If Cyprus is lovely it doesn’t say much for the rest of the places. Have you got any American kids yet from Malling? I had a letter from auntie Elsie today they had a week in Hastings recently with Jack Hubble. Have you any Greek study books – I can’t learn Greek phonetically. I must learn it if I can. Can’t get any out here. Glad the pottery arrived okay. Lots of things are brought up from the sea. Some RAF blokes found and amphora – I don’t know what that is but they found it – the whole harbour is submerged, complete with Roman galleys et cetera. Is Trotsky okay ! On Saturday we went to a squadron party. It was quite nice but we only talked and drank, so we came away early, and went to the family’s jazz club, where the manager wrote Ian for selling raffle tickets. We might join as it’s a nice place to go for a celebration. Ian has gone to the pictures tonight. He can’t get out much owing to rehearsals. Ian is in the number two hanger now not number one. Well I must close as there’s no more news but did you know Mr Walsh fell from a bus while ago and was badly shaken? He’s okay now. Got no jokes to tell as our radio doesn’t go. Love Flora, Ian and David PS the newspaper didn’t print my letter about sport. They only want politics!
