Our Family History

This tree shows the confluence of two families. The male branch of the Jenner family has roots in South London and northeastern Surrey over the past 150 years, having moved up from more rural areas in Victorian times. The maternal family were mostly farmers in Kent or Herefordshire. The Moate/Guy family are from The Fens on the maternal, Guy, side, probably migrating from The Netherlands further back. The Moate family is from North Kent on the paternal side, having moved down from the Yorkshire Dales. Jenner is an occupational name for a designer or engineer, from Old French engigneor, enginior (a derivative of engaigne 'cunning, ingenuity, stratagem, device'). We landed with William, Duke of Normandy, in 1066 and haven’t really moved very far since then….
