Actual Text:
Sunday May 4 1975 A few lines from Gateway house (the transit hotel) at Brize Norton before I climb into bed. I had an uneventful journey from Norwich to London and from London to Swindon although both trains were absolutely full to the brim, quite a surprise on a Sunday afternoon. After booking in at the terminal here in Brize Norton they gave us an awful meal but the room is quite nice – twin beds – I’m still waiting for the hot blonde to arrive. It’s now nearly midnight and I have to be up at 6.30 so I shall finish now but I shall continue tomorrow on the aircraft. I have purchased a book to read on the aircraft; Akenfield by Ronald Blythe – do you remember we saw it on television, it’s about a Suffolk village and the people that live there. 11 o’clock Monday the fifth Still at Brize Norton instead of halfway to Cyprus. We were on the aircraft with all engines running when something went wrong. So they offloaded us and now we have to sit and wait for the aircraft to be fixed. Stay tuned for the next episode. 4 o’clock Monday the fifth We finally took off at 12.30 and are now flying at 33,000 feet between Italy and the Greek islands, as I look down I can see the Mediterranean Sea glittering far below, I had lunch about half an hour ago consisting of chicken, stuffing, beans (green) and roast potatoes followed by fruit and biscuits and cheese with coffee. It was very nice. Excuse writing, it’s a bit tricky writing whilst the aircraft bobs up and down. We are due in to Cyprus in about an hour and a half so I shall post this there if I can. I shall close now. Lots of love to you all Ian
