Actual Text:
Wednesday 23rd of July Dear all Glad to hear that everyone and everything at home are A1. In reference to Elizabeth and bedwetting whilst on holiday; why don’t you take a plastic sheet and that will save the mattress at least – I expect that the hotel will have met this problem before and will take it all in their stride. I am delighted with David’s CSE results, history science and English at grade 1, that equal to 3 GCEs. Now all he needs is one or two GCE’s in perhaps geography and another and he could be on the running for a place at university. Tell David, “well done”, I am well pleased and I shall get him a present or he can have the calculator – ask him, then he can write and tell me. Get a man to come and fix the gate – get the chap who made it. As for the fallen down roses you can cut them back using my secateurs in the shed, you know those things I prune the roses with, Colin knows where they are. When the roses have faded just go round, say once a week, and cut them off. The more dead blooms you remove the more new roses will grow. Fancy Colin leaving Elmham school – makes you feel old doesn’t it. I’m glad he got a prize of a cricket book, tell him to read it thoroughly and then he should be able to get a place in his new schools team. I think Clem has a bit of a cheek to try to use you to sell his crystal. Still if you are happy with the salad bowl that’s the main thing isn’t it. We had a great storm last night, the rain flooded everything and coconuts flying about everywhere, it’s jolly dangerous – it’s no fun being hit by a coconut. Will close now and try to get a few hours sleep, was working through last night’s storm – we all got soaking wet Love to you all daddy
