1.0411 Tuesday, 12 August Dear all A letter whilst I do my packing for my trip to Colombo – a lot of packing, just two spare shirts one pair of socks etc, I’m having difficulty filling a small borrowed grip. I don’t suppose you will get this letter till after you’ve been on your trip to Scotland – I do hope you had a good time all of you. I’ll tell you all about my trip when I get back. Well the fair has been and gone but I’m afraid that the heavens opened up halfway through and dampen things down a bit. I put a program in yesterday’s letter. Well anyway we had this tropical downpour and I thought it must be cancelled but they moved the drag queen event to the gym. There were five other contestants all done up to be as glamorous as possible and me. The lad who won was even more woman -like than most women! He enjoyed primping and prancing about. Still my outfit got a big laugh. Some pictures were taken in colour for RAF News and I shall get a copy of the photo soon and I’ll send it on. I think the funniest thing of all was a stall at which various well-known personages and Gan characters sat and had custard pies thrown at them at 10p ago, a lot of money was spent at that stall. We ran the beer tent and we did a roaring trade supplying cold beer in an “air-conditioned tent”, we managed this by borrowing all the big fridges on the island, filling them with beer, we kept the tent cold with big aircraft cooling trolleys. Well I’ve rattled on a bit with little news how are you all keeping – well I hope. My back is bearing up okay of late so I think I will try some golf when I get back from the trip. I must get on and finished his packing and have an early night. My love to you all daddy
