Actual Text:
1.0413 19th of August 1975 Dear all A few lines at 3.15 in the morning whilst on duty NCO in the guardroom – it’s going to be a difficult letter as I dropping and having trouble keeping my eyes open. I think David is too young for a motorbike but perhaps in a year or sos time – meanwhile I think you should save up and be independent from his parents in the matter of money. I think he could get a Saturday job but I’m not sure that the International Stores is necessarily the best place. David has written to me and I shall answer the letter in the same vein as above. By the way I still don’t know what David will be studying at Kings Lynn. I’ve also had a letter from Johnny Virgo thanking me for the shells, Norma says that he was very busy looking them up in a book. If our children are not interested in the shells then why don’t you give them all to Johnny with the exception of the tortoises. Yet another letter from Winnie in New Zealand, not a very newsy letter but is full of woe telling me how they have, or had, flu. This place is full of ants – they are everywhere. I played golf this morning and put some salve on my lips after all my trouble – but now I think I have sunburnt ears, it seems that I just can’t win. Next Saturday the annual Dhoni Races takes place, the RAF lads row the local boats around a 2 mile course. As most of the lads have usually had a few beers it turned out to be a big laugh, my shift is putting up a team. The thermometer on the wall here is showing 82° indoors at this time in the morning. Will close now, my love to you all daddy
