4.7.66 Dear Daddy We were very pleased to receive your letter and gifts for Colin and David. They love them- but fight over the "Wonder Ball". I cannot write properly as I have cut the top of my thumb. We are all very well indeed here. Ian is in training for mountaineering in Norway soon, he goes at weekends climbing in Germany. I am sorry Lena has been bad again, but hear she is well on the mend now. Also hope you are A1. Re MCSOSA I think they should carry on with the faithful followers. I shall pay my sub every year. I can't see why the OB can't stick together without new blood. I am doing well with my German. We have a young German girl staying here. She has no home, and we wrote to an organisation for DP's. She is very nice indeed (15) and loves the boys. She speaks good English and helps me with my German. We hope she will spend some holidays with us. I'm busy arranging ox fam here at Wickrath as well so the days fly by. Ian's dad and Joyce come out soon. We've had some lovely trips out to Holland, Belgium, Rhine, et cetera. I shall write more when my thumb is better. David has his school sports on Monday he is in a few races. He reads exceptionally well. His teacher has told him he is the best in his class. But his other work is “atrocious”. He hates sums! Won't do them. Reads anything he can find and likes telling stories. Colin is sweet and toddles everywhere. I had a request on the BBC played two weeks ago! Thumb hurts. Cowdrey is a hero! Lots of love and happy birthday Flora and Ian, David and Colin PS we hope you will come out here soon for a holiday! Dear granddad Thank you for the present of marbles and the books which Colin liked reading them. The marbles are the best marbles I've seen. On Saturday I wrote some poems one is called Life. I will try to send it later in the month. Our new house is very nice better than the flat in Wickrath. We have a cat, it is called Minou. We have a newt and lot of tadpoles. From David and send some of them to Auntie Lena. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX PS I got chocolate cake and Minou caught four birds.
