Dear Dad Thank you for your recent letters. I really am sorry I have not written more often, but I seem to have been even busier than ever since we returned from Denmark. Apart from all the office work involved in preparing to hand over to my successor, there is all the business of settling up personal matters. The arrangements with regard to packing, sending kit, customs forms, boat bookings, notifying changes of address, and the mass of documents connected with bringing the car back don't leave a lot of time! I am due home on 16th of October and then go to work at Victoria. The MPBW has numerous offices in London, but none with a post of my grade nearer to Maidstone. There is a long story connected with my posting which I will tell you when I see you. It started with my refusing to agree with an idiot who has achieved seniority through scraping the moss off ancient monuments over a long career which started just about when the said monument did, and ended with me getting about the only job I could have chosen out of those going with this ministry. As I had two or three queries on my Eagle Star insurance connected with my homecoming, I wrote direct to Havelock Road with them and enclosed a cheque at the same time for the renewal. I have asked them to increase the value by £500 as from 16th of October and have also enquired about cover for children's cycles and also public liability whilst cycling. I did not know anything about the MCSOSA meeting, and I still have not heard anything. Presumably the matter can wait now until I get home. I think there ought to be something fairly definite about the future of the memorial tablets and the liability for them. If no other home can be found, would the British Legion have any interest in them? Or could some sort of space be purchased at Maidstone Cemetery? I hope Lene has recovered from her dental extractions. Presumably you know that Tita had a dose of pneumonia after her return from here. Maisie looked after her and the children, but the doctor never said what the trouble was until she was better! Must pack up now as it's late, and the typing disturbs other inmates. Note the above change in address-it is only a different title. Hope you and Lena are well. Yours Jesse
