Actual Text:
Sunday 29th of June Dear all It’s station sports day today and I’m a track judge. My job is to decide who comes in second in all the races, that should be good for a laugh or two. I’ve told you that I bought a radiocassette player soon after I arrived here well, since then I have had recorded three or four cassettes and I am listening to one whilst writing this letter. It’s Greig and Schumann piano concertos – very nice. Good to see your plans for a trip to Scotland seem well in advance. I’m told that an alternative to your proposed Oban/Mallaig and western isles would be Inverness – Kyle of Lochalsh then a 10 minute boat ride to Skye or a two-hour ferry to Tarbert then by bus to Stornoway, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the trip whichever way you go and not having the car will be a nice change although luggage problems can arise. The warrants I get should include any bus and fairies. Let me know who, when and where soonest. I have been asked to enter this Gan Fair Queen contest. I shall aim to look like a widow Twanky so I shall require a wig, large bloomers brightly coloured and must have elastic around the legs (like those on our washing line in Cyprus) and a thinnish skirt to come just below my knees – can you fix these items for me. I suppose I shall also require a bright red lipstick and something to give me rosy red cheeks. The weather has greatly improved of late – now we all lay around midday with tongues hanging out and panting like dogs. Close on the heels of the referendum results I saw an article in the Daily Telegraph to the effect that Colin Cowdrey is seriously thinking of playing for Sussex!!! As I believe everything I read in the newspaper I shall close on that happy note. Look after yourselves. All my love daddy
