2806 | William may have been named Henry William when he was born on May 1, 1831, in Tackley. In the 1851 Census, William is 19 years old and living at home in Tackley with his parents and siblings. He is described as working as a Carriers son ? He met and married Mary Chadwick in Holmer in Herefordshire, where the family went, presumably for working on the railways. The witnesses to their marriage were Thomas and Ann King, who may have married a month or so before them in the same parish. This Ann was probably his slightly older sister, and she may well have known her husband some time as it seems possible that he was also born in Tackley or Kirtlington, the next village to Tackley. On the certificate William is described as a Haffslider or a Staffslider, of which I have yet to discover the meaning. His father William was a labourer at the time of the marriage. When Henry was born in 1866, his father was named as being William and he was described as a Railway Labourer. He and his wife, Mary, lived at 3, Nursery Rd, Brickston at that time. On Henry and Mary Jane's marriage certificate in 1888, William is described as a Joiner. On Sarah Ann's birth certificate in 1869, he is described as a Labourer at the gas-works. William lived with his sister Thirza and her family in Huts near Kingswood Station in 1881. He had left Henry and Sarah with their grandparents, for what reason I do not yet know. Mary may have either died or left the family. William died of Cerebral Apoplexy, in the presence of his niece, E.White. I have yet to discover whose daughter this was. On his death certificate he is described as a Carpenter, Journeyman. | Edginton, William Henry (I1282)

2807 | Winifreds sister, Florence, was playing on a shed roof in the family garden in Hereford, when she fell, head first, into a water butt. Winifred ran into the house and, shouting "Fossie in the tub, Fossie in the tub", pulled her mother into the garden, so that Florence was pulled free from a fatal accident. Florence always refered to this incident as having saved her life. | Morris, Winifred Mary (I92)
