Notes - In the 1841 census, William describes himself as a Publican and Farmer. He is married to Ann, who is 10 years older than him. He says he is then 50 but this may be wrong since he later claims to be older than that. He states that he was born in Tackley in Oxon, but she says she was born elsewhere. Living in the same house, which is not named, are Harriet Gregory, his niece, aged 40, and her two children, Amelia aged 18 and Joseph, aged 13 years. Harriet was born in Thame, Oxon, but Amelia and Joseph were born elsewhere Ref: HO 107 890 In the 1851 Census, William is 64 years old and is described as a Farmer of 180 acres employing 9 labourers. He is married to Ann who is 11 years older than him. They appear to live in 'the New Lane near the Wood', in Tackley. In the same household are living no children but a niece, Harriet Gregory, who is 50 years old and a nephew, Joseph Gregory, who is 22 years old. Harriet was born in Thame, Oxfordshire, but Joseph was born in Dartford or Deptford in Kent. There are also servants living with the family: John Cripps is 19 years old and was born in Hanborough in Oxon. William Prickett is 19 years old and was born in Tackley. Joseph Prickett is 17 years old and was born in Tackley. Ref: 10107 1730 (81-E) By 1861, William is 74 years old and has retired from work. His wife, Ann, is still alive, aged 86 years, which seems incredible for that period. They are living (can't read the address) with Joseph who is now the head of the family, but has not yet married. He is 32 years old. His mother is with them, aged 60 now. Joseph is a victualler. Also living with the family is Valentine Hoare as a lodger, working as an agricultural labourer. He is aged 40 years, and seems to have been the son of Johanna Hoare, who was related somehow to Mary Ann, the wife of William Edginton.
