HAWKHURST. INQUEST - Alfred John Piper, aged 18, a grocer's assistant, and son of Mr Alfred Piper. the Moor. Hawkhurst. met with a sad end on Friday. He had been suffering from influenza. Early on the morning in question he was found huddled a cart in the yard, only in his nightshirt. He was extensively bruised, especially about the head, while his knees, feet and elbows were much cut and bruised. When found his feet were blue, and was in a dazed condition. He was Immediately taken Into the house, and expired in the evening. A post-mortem examination was held, and the cause of death was stated to be from concussion. A letter was found on the window in deceased's bedroom, which said; "Dear mother and father and all, can stand no longer, I die happy." A verdict of "Suicide whilst of unsound mind* was returned, and the Jury expressed their sincere sympathy to the family.
