The school choir of Duncan Hall School, Yarmouth, sang Faure's Requiem before a congregation of 5,000 in the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and the Principal, Mr. V. H. Searles, tells us that he believes this is the first English choir to be invited to sing in the famous cathedral. The singing was most successful and the conductor described it as of 'prima donna" standard, especially the solo work of David Jenner, a third year pupil. The congregation stood in tribute as the choir walked out and one old French crippled woman stood with her crutches at her side and tears streaming down her face and murmured 'merci' as each boy passed her. |
