Many thanks for sending me the report for Alfred Piper. It's good to see all this info in one package, and I'm sure it will be helpful when I start writing about my family history.
We did spot some inconsistencies in this area on your website, but note that you have already rectified one of them. They are in the area of Alfred's offspring, as follows:-
Louis James Piper, b 1889, d 1970. Details correct.
Alfred John Piper, b 1891, d 1910. Alfred and John are one and the same person. He was known as John. Sadly, he was a troubled soul - he tried to take his life several times, on one occasion being rescued from the Lime Pond opposite the church. He subsequently fell (?) out of an upstairs window of the shop building; although he survived the fall, the injuries he sustained led to his demise. We have a copy of the press report of his inquest - I think that is with Andrew.
Louisa Grace Piper, b 1894, d 1976. She was known as Grace to us. She appeared as two people on your family tree, but I note that you have since amended this.
Ernest Piper, b 1897, d 1917. Ernest was killed in action at the battle for Cherisy, France on 03/05/1917. He was with 7th Bn. The Buffs. (East Kent Regiment). He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. His name also appears on the Piper family grave kerb at St.Laurence Church, Hawkhurst.
Stanley Piper, b 1902, d 1976. Details correct. |
