The 19th Training Squadron (Day-bombing) of The Royal Flying School, with 24 aircraft in specially erected canvas hangers and the establishment of 3321 members of all ranks represented a big change at the camp in October 1917.
The Great War gave impetus to technological development, and an air dimension was now a critical consideration for commanders. 'Dogfights', aerial combat between opposing aircraft, became a daily occurrence and air superiority was claimed by each side at different times. |
