Mr H J Piper was a pupil at the Tonbridge Sir A Judds Commercial School from 1903 to 1909 during which period he was under my constant care and supervision as headmaster. As a pupil in Latin, divinity and general English he came directly under my influence and instruction, and in all respects his work and conduct were entirely satisfactory. Before he left the school he had acquired a sound foundation knowledge of Latin and French, and he showed special ability in English composition and mathematics.
I have not had much opportunity of seeing or hearing of him since my resignation of the headmastership of the school at Christmas 1908 but I should expect him to be as he was when a pupil at school thoroughly upright and trustworthy and useful and reliable in all respects in any work which he felt competent to undertake.
