    Dear Sir,

I have received your application for our vacant mastership.
I require a master essentially for the first form which consists of boys of the average age of 10 years. I require a good teacher of young boys rather than a man of high attainments.
If the master could help in any other part of the school, that would only be a secondary consideration.
This is an old established school (private) and a master is required who is likely to remain for some time if mutually agreeable.
The salary is £160 (non-resident) a year. The master's take it in turns as regards the games, each master as a rule giving up one half-holiday a week if necessary. Half an hour playground supervision every day.
    Hours 9.30 till 12.30 2.15 till 4.15
I should be glad if you would send me a wire stating whether you are willing to accept post (in the event of Mr McCabe 's reference being satisfactory). Come and see me if you are in town.

    Yours truly,
    Herbert Large.
    pp JHL.
