Falkirk 'Leinster' victim
Among those who fell victims to the German U-boat outrage in torpedoing the "Leinster", the Irish mail packet steamer, was Private William Crichton, RAF, son of Mr and Mrs John Crichton, 4 Garrison Place, Falkirk. Private Crichton, who joined the Air Force as a mechanic in April last, was coming home with the "Leinster" on his first leave. He was sent to a training centre in Ireland a month ago. The parents have been notified that the body was recovered, and was interred at Phoenix Park Military Cemetery. Before enlisting, Private Crichton, who was eighteen years of age, was employed as an apprentice engineer. An elder brother, Private John Crichton, Seaforth, Highlandeers, is in France. |
